Our Story

We founded Paper or Plastik Cafe in 2010 as a family: Anya & Yasha Michelson, a husband-and-wife design team, along with our daughter, Marina, a filmmaker, and now Max, a college student. Over the last 12 years, we have proudly extended our family to include a fantastic team of baristas, servers, cooks, and dishwashers, and a community of regular customers.

Our mission is to sustain our customers not only with quality food and drink but also with culture and community all under one roof. Our food menu strives to honor the diversity of Los Angeles as well as our family's international background with a well-rounded, eclectic menu. We serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner, along with a selection of specials that reflect the seasonality of California's abundant produce, as well as pastries from some of L.A.'s finest bakers, like Cake Monkey, Bread Lounge, and Ludivine Bakery. Our coffee program is rooted in the third wave coffee ethos which strives to produce high-quality made-to-order coffee, with offerings including house-roasted single-origin beans, as well as a rotating selection from the country's best roasters. We also offer a curated wine list and a rotating selection of nearly two-dozen craft beers, all carefully selected from premiere California brewers.
